The RAW House is the result of a profound exercise in integration with the plot and the natural topography of the mountain. The house is staggered over four levels that blend into the terrain to merge with the surrounding landscape, respecting its silhouette and natural character.
The essential material that shapes the project is concrete, conceived from a perspective of sustainability and authenticity. Low-embodied-energy recycled concrete was chosen, formulated with aggregates from other constructions, achieving a significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional concrete.
Its finish, in a natural grey tone without pigments, reveals the intrinsic texture of the material, offering a brutalist aesthetic that celebrates the essence of construction. This highlights the honesty of exposed concrete, emphasising its raw beauty and structural capacity.
The client presented an unusual architectural challenge: a house without pillars. This concept is achieved with slabs that act as large cantilevers, anchored from the rear, creating a feeling of extreme lightness and explicitly defying gravity.
This structural approach required meticulous planning, both in the execution of the work and in the precise layout of the installations, as no false ceilings were used. The structure is exposed and becomes a key element of the design.
The colour palette revolves around the greys of concrete, complemented by charred wood furniture. This wood has been treated using the Japanese yakisugi technique, which increases its durability and gives it a deep, dark tone. The duality between the mineral (grey) and the organic (black) creates a serene and deeply balanced interior atmosphere.
The outdoor environment is conceived as an extension of the architecture. The garden is designed according to xeriscaping principles and inspired by the techniques used by Olivier Filipi. Native Mediterranean species such as lavender, rosemary, thyme, rockrose, olive trees and carob trees were carefully selected to create a space with low water consumption that respects natural cycles and is consistent with the climate.
Casa RAW aspires to be a contemporary retreat that prioritises calm, silence and concentration, a space designed for well-being and disconnection from the fast pace of life. It is an energy self-sufficient home and follows bio-healthy criteria inspired by the principles of the WELL system, actively seeking to care for the health and well-being of its inhabitants within a clearly biophilic environment.
