90% OF YOUR LIFE, WELL DESIGNED

19/09/2025

No—we’re not planning to kidnap you, far from it. But with the title of today’s article, we wanted to draw your attention to a fact that recently struck us at the studio. It came up during a visit to the company Actiu in Castalla (Alicante), and it truly surprised us.

Consider this: most of us spend 90%—or even more—of our days inside buildings. At home, in the office, at the doctor’s, at the gym, in restaurants, libraries, friends’ houses, supermarkets… All buildings, all designed by architects.

For architects, that 90% represents a responsibility we must take seriously. It means we have the power to create spaces where the primary goal is the well-being of the people who inhabit them. Aesthetics matter, of course—but health, comfort, and quality of life come first.

That’s why we embrace the principles of the WELL Building Standard, an international certification that puts people at the heart of architectural design. WELL evaluates buildings on factors such as air quality, natural light, acoustic comfort, ergonomics, opportunities for physical activity, and connection to nature—elements we integrate naturally into our projects.

Whether in private homes or public spaces, at Singular Studio we take a holistic approach to design, aiming to enhance both the physical and emotional well-being of those who live and work in our spaces. We create environments that breathe, that convey calm, that invite movement and promote focus, mental health, and a better quality of life. For example, the interior courtyard system in Casa Piscis brings daylight deep into the home while allowing for natural ventilation.

For us, architecture is more than just a technical or artistic discipline—it’s a social and human responsibility. This philosophy has been at the core of Singular Studio Architects for many years. We often remind both our clients and our team that true luxury is comfort.

Our greatest reward comes when residents—like those of Casa Esme—tell us, in conversations after they’ve settled in, that they not only feel completely at ease, but also make full use of nearly every space in their home. That’s when we know we’ve succeeded—not just in creating a beautiful building, but in shaping a better way of living.
